Actor Ellar Coltrane was seven years old when he began what would be a twelve-year process of portraying “Mason” in Richard Linklater’s new film, Boyhood. Rather than use lookalikes to tell the story of growing up, Linlater and his cast—including Ethan Hawke and Patricia Arquette—simply took their time and let nature take its course.
